Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe University will celebrate first master’s degree candidates during 2024 commencement

(Lac Courte Oreilles, WI) – May 15, 2024 – LCOOU will celebrate 44 undergraduate degree and certificate candidates and our very first 15 master’s degree candidates during the 2024 Commencement Ceremony, on Saturday, May 18 at 11 a.m., at the LCO Honor the Earth Powwow grounds.

We will be graduating six Master of Science in Business Management and five Master’s in Human Services degree candidates.

Commencement will begin with a processional LCOOU drum to precede a flag song and posting of colors by the AmVets and graduates. President Russell Swagger, St. Croix member and Lac Courte Oreilles descendant, will deliver the welcome address. The celebration will include comments by LCO Tribal Governing Board Representative David Bisonette, as well as comments by the Board of Regents Vice Chairperson, the Honorable Judge Monica “Zhaawanagiizhigookwe” Isham.

The keynote address speaker will be Donna LaSieur (LCO member). She was among the first graduating class of the University, back when we were a community college. Donna is also the grandmother of this year’s AICF Student of the Year Andre’Anna Acosta (LCO member).

The celebration will conclude with a feast.

We hope to see you there to celebrate our hard-working graduates and this accomplishment.
