Boozhoo! My name is Bizhikiins and I'm an enrolled member of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Anishinaabeg. I attended the University of Wisconsin Madison for my undergraduate degree. I completed a B.A in Anthropology with certificates in Archaeology, Environmental Studies, and American Indian Studies. I also completed my Master's degree in Environmental Conservation from UW Madison Nelson Institute of Environmental Studies. Currently, I'm completing a dissertation for a PhD through the Nelson Institute of Environmental Studies in the Environment and Resource program at UW Madison. I have served two consecutive terms for our Tribal Council at Bad River and have also worked for the Great Lakes Indian Fish & Wildlife Commission as the Director of Public Information. I have taught courses at UW Madison, Northland College and LCOO University. I have also served as the Associate Director for the Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute at Northland College. Most recently I served as the Administrator for the Treaty Natural Resource Division for the Gaa-Miskwaabikaang (Red Cliff) community. I'm extremely passionate about our environment and the mechanisms we use to help protect her for future generations. I firmly believe our Ojibwe knowledge systems will contribute to solving some of the global environmental issues we face as a society.

I have always thought of LCOOU as the epicenter for Ojibwe language, culture and worldview. I'm excited to help be a part of a team that centers Ojibwe values and seeks to strengthen all of our communities through a holistic education. In my experience, LCOOU also maintains some of the best faculty and students around- folks that are excited to learn.

My family and I spend a lot of time harvesting seasonally, hunting and fishing. We also love to attend ceremonies, pow-wows and other community events. I'm always interested in our tribal environmental perspectives, and tribal sovereignty. I'm a lifelong learner of our Ojibwe knowledge and language!
