Pete Elected to SAIGE Board of Directors

The Society of American Indian Government Employees (SAIGE) was formed in 2002 and is the first national non-profit organization representing American Indian and Alaska Native Federal, Tribal, Stat, and local government employees. SAIGE sponsors an annual National Training Program focused on professional development, leadership and topics that are integral to the highly complex relationship known as the Federal Indian Trust Responsibility.

Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe College Red Cliff Outreach Director, James Pete, DBA, was recently elected to a one year Board position. Pete has been associated with SAIGE for the past 5 years, with 4 of those being a presenter at the National Training Program.

Pete states, “I see this opportunity, to connect and support students, from our Tribal Communities, to explore their higher educational desires. At the local Tribal level, students apply to the Tribe for financial aid assistance. SAIGE also promotes a Youth Track for students exploring their higher educational desires, along with the possibility of working with the Federal Government.”

“It is vitally important that our faculty and staff are engaged in the larger community, it is through their interactions and relationships that we are able to gather information to help us make the best decisions for the College. Dr. Pete’s involvement in SAIGE adds more depth to this knowledge base.” shares Dr. Russell Swagger, President of Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe College.
