Program Spotlight: Introduction to Supervisory Management

Meet the Instructor

Dale Hegstrom has taught for the past 10 years at Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwa Community College in casino management and prior to that he supervised teams at AT&T 's Lucent Technologies in North America, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Dale is committed to bringing "Best Practices" in supervisory management to the Native American communities in Northern Wisconsin with exuberance, humor and a great respect for indigenous cultures.

Course Overview

This course provides up-to-date treatment of the essentials of supervisory management, including supervision of work, people, daily activities, and the supervisor's relationship to the organization. Topics covered include information on productivity, time management, transactional analysis, labor relations and more.

Students are encouraged to discuss experiences from the work place and apply the principles of best practices in the discipline.

Why take this course?

Many employees are promoted to supervisor level without understanding the basic skills and responsibilities required. This course helps to outline both responsibilities and skills needed, based on “best practices” - or commercial or professional procedures that are accepted or prescribed as being correct or most effective.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Identify the day-to-day duties of a supervisor

2. Utilize the tools learned to address the more complex challenges supervisors confront as they seek to communicate, motivate and model ethical decisions and lead a team.
