Opportunities for High School Students

Course Options – Take college level classes for credit.

Wisconsin’s Course Options is a program that students enrolled in a Wisconsin public school district to apply to take up to two courses at a time at an Educational Institution. Participating students remain enrolled in their resident school districts for the majority of their classes. The resident school district is responsible for the cost of the course, though students may be charged additional tuition and fees for courses eligible for college credits.

Eligibility for Course Options

·         All grades (K-12)

·         Be in good academic standing

·         Have an acceptable disciplinary record

·         Apply to the college in the school semester prior to the one in which the student plans to attend the college course

·         Maintain satisfactory attendance and comply with the compulsory school attendance law under Wisconsin Statute 118.15 (1)(a)

 

How do I start?

Application forms are available from your high school’s counseling office or from LCOOCC.

·         You will meet with you high school counselor to discuss how Course Options classes will fit into your high school schedule.

·         You must obtain your parent’s or guardian’s signature on the application.

·         With the assistance of your high school counselor, you will make course selection(s) and submit those choices to your school board at least 6 weeks prior to course commencement date.

·         The signed forms with approved classes listed must be submitted to LCOOCC

·         After the submission deadline, LCOOCC will contact you to meet with a representative prior to registration.

·         Summer session courses are not eligible for the Course Options Program.

 

What class Choices are available?

·         The Course Options program is offered at the following LCOOCC locations:

o   LCOOCC Main campus

o   LCOOCC – Lac du Flambeau

o   LCOOCC – North (in Washburn)

o   LCOOCC – St Croix (in Hertel)

·         Some courses are also available over Interactive Television or the Internet.

·         Any Associate Degree or Certificate course may be taken, as long as all prerequisite and corequisite requirements are met.

Youth Options - Take college level classes for high school and college credit.

 

Wisconsin’s Youth Options program provides opportunities for high school juniors and seniors who are in good academic standing to take postsecondary courses at college that can count for both college credit and towards high school graduation. Interested students apply to their school district asking for approval to take one or more college courses each semester of their junior or senior year. By approving the student to take college course(s), the school district will pay for the student’s tuition and fees associated with the cost of the course(s).

 

Eligibility for Youth Options

·         Be a public high school junior or senior

·         Be in good academic standing

·         Have an acceptable disciplinary record

·         Apply to the college in the school semester prior to the one in which the student plans to attend the college course.

·         Maintain satisfactory attendance and comply with the compulsory school attendance law under Wisconsin Statute 118.15 (1)(a)

·         After the submission deadline, LCOOCC will contact you to meet with a representative prior to registration.

·         Summer session courses are not eligible for the Youth Options Program.
