I.

Mission Statement

 

The Mission of the Chippewa Flowage Invasive Species Education and Management Steering Committee is to provide a guiding force for the execution of project activities, a deliberating body for subsequent management recommendations, and a venue through which to maximize contact and exposure of outreach activities to the broadest possible audience.

And to organize the efforts of collaborating organizations, so that funding and volunteer time are used wisely, thus increasing our impact on the spread of invasive species.

 

II.

GOALS

 

The overall goal is the creation of a total county-wide effort aimed at the prevention/education, management, and monitoring of invasive species on the Chippewa Flowage.

 

      Specific goals include:

  • Provide input on the dissemination of information/educational materials to resource users.
  • Discuss public policy and legal issues governing control and eradication of invasive species.
  • Analyze possible management strategies.
  • Develop a preliminary Invasive Species Management Plan for Chippewa Flowage consistent with the Chippewa Flowage Management Plan.
  • Identification of targeted areas for initial control/eradication efforts.
  • Provide input on public presentations on invasive management.
  • Discuss the implementation of selected control options on specific stands of Eurasian Watermilfoil and Purple Loosestrife.
  • Adopt a system/structure to sustain or redirect collaborative efforts to address invasive species issues within the Chippewa Flowage watershed.

III.

MEMBERS

 

  1. The members of this organization shall be those persons from Sawyer County who represent organizations that are responsible for property ownership surrounding the Chippewa Flowage.

These include: WIDNR , US Forest Service, Lac Courte Oreilles Tribe, Chippewa Flowage Area Property Owners Association, Chippewa Flowage Resort Owners Association, etc.

  1. Other members will represent organizations/agencies/associations responsible for (or affected by) invasive species management and/or education on the Chippewa Flowage.
  1. Organizations/associations/agencies involved in invasive species education or management on a county, state, or national level may also comprise the membership.

IV.

OFFICERS

 

  1. The Officers of this organization shall be the Chair, Vice-Chair and the Secretary.

 

  1. All Officers of this organization shall be appointed by the Chair.

V.

DUTIES OF THE OFFICERS

 

  1. The Chair shall:
    1. Preside at all meetings.
    2. Prepare meeting agendas.
    3. Appoint officers.

 

  1. The Vice-Chair shall assume the duties of the Chair in his/her absence.
  2. The Secretary shall:
    1. Keep the minutes of all meetings in good form.
    2. Inform members of meetings and agendas in advance.

VI.

MEETINGS

 

  1. The Chippewa Flowage Invasive Species Education and Management Steering Committee will meet at the discretion of the Chair.
  2. The location will be in Sawyer County .
  3. There will be, at minimum, two meetings a year, one in early spring and one in fall.  Other “special-interest” meetings may be called during any time by the Chair.

 

 

VII.

AMENDMENTS

 

A.     Amendments to the By-Laws may be made by a majority vote of the Committee Members present.

 

 

VIII.

ADDITIONAL GOALS

 

This committee was formed in hopes of adopting a system/structure to sustain or redirect collaborative efforts to address invasive species issues within the Chippewa Flowage watershed, and eventually Sawyer County .
