Bad River Tribal Member
I am delighted about joining the LCO Ojibwe Community College.
As the Extension Director I am dedicated to advancing the
Extension and College Missions’ through Outreach and expansion
of Community Development Programming.
On a more personal level; I am a mother of two wonderful
children, Joseph and Mariella.
We recently relocated to Northern Wisconsin after
spending 3 years on the East coast.
So careful of the accent…..don’t let it fool you,
home is really here in Wisconsin.
Educational
Background:
Currently I am working with Capella University to complete
my PhD in Human Services specializing in Community Program
Development.
I hold a Masters of Social Work degree from Rutgers University,
The State University of New Jersey. At Rutgers I specialized in
Research, Policy, Administration and Planning for Community
Non-Profit Organizations. My
research emphasis included clinical observations and analysis
pertaining to issues surrounding immigration, gender and
cultural influence on individual mental health and treatment
planning, with illnesses such as Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome
(PTSD), intimate abuse, substance abuse, depression and anxiety.
I
also hold degrees in Anthropology and American Indian Studies
from UW-Milwaukee. While
at UW-Milwaukee my research area was specific to the Ojibwe
Nation located in Northern Wisconsin with regard federal
government policy and community response and adjustment during
the years from 1880-1906. |
Shanna Clark
Program Assistant
I began as a student at LCOOCC in 2005 after transferring here from ITT in
Memphis
TN.
My academic career began by studying Computer Network Management. When I
arrived at LCOOCC, I changed my study track to Web Page Development. I worked
as the IT Help Desk Intern at LCOOCC my entire time here as a student.
It was in Web Page Development that I earned my Associates Degree in
May of 2007. Upon graduation I
took a summer intern position with the Extension Department. I found I really
liked what I was doing and am now Extensions Program Assistant. In January of
2008 I will continue work toward my Bachelors degree through the distance
learning program at UW Superior.

I
am a resident of Hayward, Wisconsin.
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point with
a Bachelors Degree in Science, with a major in Biology.
Currently, I am seeking a masters degree in Land Resources from
the Nelson Institute of Environmental Studies at UW Madison.
I have worked on a large variety of research projects,
including peregrine falcons, canada geese, and black-tailed prairie
dogs. I enjoy doing just
about anything outdoors, an outdoor enthusiast I suppose.
Canoeing/kayaking, hunting, rock/ice climbing, fishing,
traveling, harvesting of wild rice and photography are a few of my
hobbies. I am the
Water Quality Educator here at Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Community
College and my main focus is the Chippewa Flowage Invasive Species
Education and Management Project. I am researching the distribution of
eurasian watermilfoil and purple loosestrife on the Flowage, creating
educational programs to inform the public, and developing an aquatic
plant management plan as well. The
Chippewa Flowage has been a part of my family since I can remember.
It is a beautiful place filled with many memories.
I am also teaching the Environmental Science course,
and am a member of the Environmental Stewardship Committee here on
campus. |
