VCA  102            Fundamentals of Carpentry        4 cr

This course is to provide the students with the general understanding of the tools and materials used in the carpentry trade.  To introduce the fundamental ideas, skills and terminology used in the carpentry trade. To provide a broad-spectrum observation of all the skills and knowledge that is available to people interested in making a choice of a diverse lifetime occupation. Includes a lab. (Spring)

VCA  120            Blueprint Reading        4 cr

This course will introduce the basics of residential drafting, including basic drafting techniques, building techniques, building materials, material symbols and language used by the construction industry to produce residential plans. (Fall)

VCA  121            Carpentry Mathematics        4 cr

This course will introduce the basics of residential estimating based on common mathematics and the formulas and equations that are used by the trade. Basic mathematic principles shall also be reviewed and taught. (Spring)

VCA  122          CONSTRUCTION THEORY        4 CR      

This course is to provide the students with a general understanding of the tools and materials used in the carpentry trade. To introduce the fundamental ideas, skills and terminology used in the carpentry trade. To provide students with the skills to implement good carpentry designs and develop quality craftsmanship. Includes a lab.  (Spring)

VCA  123          Layout and Production        4 CR             

This course will help the student to understand the terminology and design theories used in the layout and construction of the basic components of residential and light commercial buildings. To utilize the learned skills to accomplish accurate layout and planning of residential construction. Includes a lab. (Fall)

VCA  232          Remodeling Techniques        4 cr

This course will introduce the basics of residential remodeling, including assessment, planning, tools, building materials, roofs, doors and windows, exteriors, structural carpentry, masonry, foundations, conserving energy, finish surfaces, finish carpentry, and flooring. Includes a lab.  (Spring)
