This trial survey was distributed as an email attachment to the FacStaff list.

This was a test intended just for fun. Look below to see how the survey turned out!

After one week, 29 individuals responded. The data were downloaded and the following Quick Stats report generated.

The graphics and tables are below.

Conclusion: Most respondents had email on all the time or checked email several times during the day.

But what about those who either do not check email at all or decided not to respond to the survey? hummmmm....... This is an example of self-selection bias.

Conclusion: Almost 45% (n=13) of the respondents were staff and almost 28% (n=8) identified themselves as administrators. Six instructors responded and two identified themselves as "other."

Hummmm...lots of administrators and half of the faculty. In order to understand which group is likely to be reached by email, the next table sets out the role of the respondent versus how often he or she checks email...

Conclusion: Half of the administrators have email on all the time. Although staff persons were the only positions that identified they checked email only twice a day, they also had the highest percentage (62%, that is, 8 out of 13 individuals) that have email on all the time.

And so, judging by this little survey, how would you rate yourself and how would you rate your co-workers at being "online and in touch" via email?
