How to Write a Prize-Winning Syllabus---Impress Your Students & Wow Your Colleagues

The purpose of this web site is to provide a easily accessible place for faculty and other interested individuals to learn about and follow the procedure for the introduction of new courses and programs at LCO Ojibwa Community College.

The Higher Learning Commission, formerly known as NCA, has a set of 24 General Institutional Requirements (GIRs) that all accredited colleges and universities must meet. These web pages address the need to assure continued involvement of faculty in the development and evaluation of all of the educational programs, as set out in GIR #11, found on page 22 of the Handbook of Accreditation, 2nd Edition, 1997.

The LCOOCC Curriculum Committee has approved the following documents for new course and new program proposals.

The Consultant Policy outlines new policy regarding the hiring of consultants in general, plus the special circumstances of consultants hired to develop curriculum.

bullet

The Curriculum Approval Process memo describes the steps to be taken in sequence when proposing new courses or new programs.

bullet

The Curriculum Committee Proposal Form accompanies new courses and new programs. It should be completed prior to submission to the Curriculum Committee. Because a course syllabus should accompany the proposal, a Syllabus Template is available.

bullet

The Syllabus Template is the preferred format for course syllabi of current and proposed courses. Save the Word Document to your local drive and use it to create your course syllabi.

bullet

The Syllabus Tutorial is provided as a guide to the various components of a course syllabus.

The On-Line Course Policy was approved in May 2002 and describes the requirements on-line courses should address.
