OBJECTIVES

MEANS OF ASSESSMENT

The student will develop increased levels of proficiency in the use of written and oral language.

1.      The student will be able to write a clear, well-organized paper using documentation and quantitative information, with proper grammar, spelling and punctuation.

2.      The student will be able to deliver a clear, well-organized verbal presentation.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

·         A writing sample will be taken from EDC 110 Introduction to Higher Education.  A random selection of these samples will be scored using the Writing Rubric, (see Appendix CI-GE-4).  by a faculty team consisting of advanced writers and a content area professional.  These papers will serve as a basis for comparison with a random selection of papers written by second semester sophomores.  Concerns/suggestions will be collected to aid teachers in components needing improvement (see Appendix CI-GE-5). 

·         A random selection of writing samples from major programs of second-semester sophomores will be assessed by a team of faculty on a writing rubric, (see Appendix CI-GE-4).  Of those essays, a minimum of 75% will score a 4 or better on a 1 to 6 scale.

·         The comparison between the EDC 110 papers and those from 2nd semester sophomores will demonstrate an average increase of 2 points on the Rubric (see Appendix CI-GE-4).

·         Toward the completion of ENG 221 Basic Communications, student will deliver an in-class informative OR persuasive speech.  The speech will be video recorded for purposes of assessment.  A random selection of the recorded speeches will be assessed on a  rubric, (see Appendix CI-GE-6) by a faculty team.  At least 75% of recorded speeches will receive a 2 or better on a 1 – 3 scale.
